Nevada Workers’ Comp Insurance
CompShield is licensed to write workers’ comp directly in Nevada, License #3933246, and we’re an independent agency comparing real carriers, not a single-carrier storefront. Nevada’s hospitality and gaming sector is the state’s largest employer by far, with logistics and construction rounding out a genuinely distinctive economy, and getting your classification matched to your real operation is where we focus.
Nevada requires coverage from your very first employee, no exemptions. Nevada is also one of the few states that used to run an exclusive state-fund monopoly, until it privatized coverage in 1999, opening the market to real competition.
Nevada Requires Coverage From Employee One
Nevada law requires virtually every employer with even one employee to carry industrial insurance, no minimum-headcount exemption exists. Employers must file an Affirmation of Compliance with the state as part of demonstrating coverage.

Felony Exposure for Repeat or Injury-Related Violations
A first offense for operating uninsured in Nevada is a misdemeanor, but a first offense causing substantial bodily harm or death, or a second or subsequent offense within seven years, escalates to a Category C felony, one to five years in state prison and a fine between $1,000 and $50,000.
Beyond that, the employer owes back-premiums covering up to six years plus interest, and the state can order immediate cessation of business operations at the worksite until compliance is achieved.
Nevada Was Once Monopolistic, Now It’s Fully Competitive
Nevada is not currently one of the four monopolistic states, Ohio, North Dakota, Washington, and Wyoming, where coverage has to come through a state fund. Nevada actually used to run its own exclusive state fund, the State Industrial Insurance System, until 1999 legislation privatized it into a competing private carrier. Today employers can shop multiple carriers rather than being forced into one option, exactly where an independent agent comparing real choices adds value.
How Much Does Workers’ Comp Cost in Nevada?
Nevada’s hospitality and gaming-heavy economy, its single largest employment sector, means rates for that classification reflect real, documented risk differences from logistics or construction. The formula behind your real number is the same regardless of trade:
- Payroll. Your total insurable payroll, starting from your very first employee.
- Class code rate. Hospitality, logistics, and construction classifications reflect Nevada’s real economic mix and are rated accordingly.
- Experience mod. Compares your claims history to similar Nevada businesses in your class code.
We’ll run the real number against your actual payroll and classification, not a generic Nevada average.
